Uploading And Managing Unbranded Real Estate Property Videos For The MLS

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Vidlisting has just released a set of features that let you upload and manage unbranded real estate video as part of day 3 of the Vidlisting Month of Code (3 Apr 2009 release date). Unbranded videos are most often thought of in conjunction with the various Multiple Listing Service(MLS) organizations but we’ll discuss a fewother possible uses for this in this article.

Real estate property videos are a key part of any MLS strategy for an agent or broker. The MLS provides a large number of video views from prospective buyers but also has a number of rules around links and branding. Though we’ve done our best to support the known rules of the MLS, the particular MLS in any given area might have unique rules. Please contact us if you need modification to your unbranded player to conform with local requirements.

Uploading an unbranded property is simple.  You just need to be a member of the real estate video site, Vidlisting.com (any level - even trial or free). Once a member, you can either enter the member upload area or the more general real estate video upload form. It makes sense that unbranded videos can only be associated with properties so select “Property” as your video type.  As soon as you select “Property“, the interface will expand to include a field labeled, “Video Plays in: “. You’ll need to select “Unbranded Player“. That’s it..the rest of the video upload process is just the same as always.

If for some reason, you dont see the unbranded option, you either dont have cookies enabled or you have not recently joined or logged in with Vidlisting since we released this functionality.

After you’ve uploaded and successfully converted  your video, you’ll find the video in your member workspace with a new icon background color and the small word “UNBRANDED” above the configuration icon.

To attach an unbranded video to its branded or standard version, simply find the workspace icon of the branded version, click the small circular red video configuration icon, and you’ll see a menu to the left like the one shown immediately above. You’ll click the “Attach An Unbranded Video” tag and select the correct unbranded video and you’ve attached the unbranded video.  That’s it!

Above is what the unbranded video player page looks like to viewers of the video.  Note that there are no links back to the standard version of the video or associated videos along the bottom of the player.

Once you have attached your unbranded video to the regular version, viewers of the video will be able to see that version as well. the unbranded video appears on a link on the standard video’s player page. There is no such link back from the unbranded player.  The advantage to attaching an unbranded video is that now other agents have an online video link that they can feel comfortable sending to THEIR investors and prospective buyers without advertising your listing.

We will make a few small improvements to the video selection interface in the coming days. We’ll also add a capability to attach an unbranded video directly from its own video configuration area rather than from the branded or standard version of the video. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated - we take it well.
